The Oldtimer Weekend is a fixture of the spring event calendar, and a real treat for the whole family. In 2014, the Oldtimer Weekend will be held on 11-13 April in the Park of the Hungarian Railway Museum.
The buildings and the entire park of the Hungarian Railway museum will be turn into a veritable theme park. In the engine sheds will be turned into elegant exhibition spaces for beautiful old timer cars and motorbikes. Veteran cars will also be exhibited in front of the engine sheds, a different selection every day. Hostesses dressed in period costumes will be guarding the precious old timer cars. At the two engine turntables of the museum vintage steam engines and train cars will be exhibited. What’s more, visitors can even climb up, and the really brave ones can get in the cockpit of a real Truman steam engine, next to the sooty machinist. The vintage steam engine will be running for three days. There will be myriad interactive activities running in the 1,200 square meter park, a real paradise for families with children. The garden railway will be running with six cars, draisines and other rail vehicles, horse-drawn omnibus will be available to experience. You can try the engine turntable and get on the vintage buses. Children can play on the folkloric playground and try the old fashioned vursli, where the barrel organ will be playing all day long, marvel at the model train exhibition and get free face painting, and they can even meet their favourite fairy-tale characters. Adults can sample chocolates, wine and pálinka for free on all three days of the exhibition. A new addition is the old timer race car simulator, allowing visitors to race on legendary race courses in period vehicles. As an additional event to Oldtimer Weekend, the “Leisure Exhibition” will be held concurrently. Visitors can familiarise themselves with boats, caravans, and other leisure vehicles and equipment, as well as the latest models of cars, mini vans, motorbikes, quad bikes, bicycles, hunting and fishing equipment.
