12th European Garden Railway Convention

18-19th August 2018

"Where tiny steam locos clatter, there lies the railway museum"

This year it’s already the twelfth time that the European Garden Railway Convention will be hosted at the Hungarian Railway Museum. The event enjoys great popularity among our visitors every year, since miniature versions of diesel and steam locomotives ride the tiny railway track.

At the third weekend of August, the tiny steam locomotives of the neighbouring countries will visit the Railway Museum again. The little trains will make their way clattering over the 850 meters (about 2800 feet) long garden railway track which goes through a tunnel and crosses a real railway bridge spanning over a small lake, finally returning to the departure station at the end of the line. A special feature of the event is that the miniature copies can not only be looked at, but can even be tried outby children and their parents.

Even in Hungary, more and more garden railway fans build their own steam locomotive and what is more, some of them even create seating cars to be coupled to the locomotive. During the time of the event, our visitors can also admire these unique pieces of art.

In the roundhouse, visitors can see steam engines, LGB size railways and of course, just like at all the other events in the museum, our vistors can drive a handcar, ride a big locomotive, drive model trains and ride the turntable.
